story. Here is a link to the original tread: [ http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1105177 ] How teh story started: I got acall from Robert and he asked me to come over and help him start his car. I dov eto his place at around 11pm and saw the car. He told me that he put a jspec engine, put new JWT Sport 500 turbos, JWT Dual pop, Greddy Profec B boost controller,a nd some other parts. The car was not even clos eto being started. The PS pump was not attached, the low speed driveability on the JWT twin was not there, stock recircs were not in. So we put the stock recircs, and decided to crank teh car, after priming the new turbos. Well, here came teh problem. While cranking, the car would not build ANY oil pressure. I asked him about his gauge, he said it was working before. I asked him about the sending unit, and he said it was working on teh US spec engine. So after cranking the car several times for 10 sec each time, I decided just to leave off teh oil pressure sending unit. Well, after turbning it, NO OIL came out. Next thing we wanted toi do is to drop the oil filter to look at it. It was a cheap oil filter from Walmart. Bad luck: the filter was liek welded on teh oil filter tree. And Robert wa sthe one who installe dit before. Remember, now it is 12am, and I am at his house. He tried several tools to remove the oil filter, and the only thing that happened was actually damaging the filter. Nothing worked, it was stuck there forever. So now I started asking questions about teh engine. He bought it from a shop in CA, and did not even look at teh warranty. We went online to the shop's website, and HE SAW it then, that for teh warranty to be valid, he had to replace all seals, oil, gaskets ( except the headgaskets), and then the oil pump as well. Then he told me that the turbos that came with that jspec engine were completely frozen. I looked at them, and yes, the wheels would not move AT ALL. At first I thought that he just wanted to upgrade to bigger turbos, but now I saw why he bought teh JWT 500s. There was another thing. He installed the Nismo 555cc injkectors himself, and also he reused his ACT clutch. But toi that, we will get later. I aske dhim what is teh condition of teh clutch,a nd he said it is good. Then he asked me how much to replace the oil pump. Considering that the en dof teh oil dipstick was in the oil pan ( we were not sure if it was in the oil pan, or it was lodged somewhere on the crank), I told him that it would be easier and BETTER to pull teh engine. remeber, we had to replace teh oil pump, take out the oil dipstick piece out of teh oil pan, and then drop the pass sid eturbo, to remove the oil filter tree. I told him tha the labor only for that is $800. That was a deal! Again, I asked him if teh timing belt was done on taht jspec engine, and he said he put just the belt and pump, an ddid not even check the idler pulleys, or seals. I told him that since teh engine is coming out, now it would be the time to check all that. He agreed. So he owed teh car to us, an dthen teh drama started. After I pulle dteh engine, a lot more problems came out: - the clutch was toast, teh disk was flat on both sides, abrely any material left on it. The sprinsg were rattling - he had a huge oil leak on both exhaust valve covers. He had teh plenum out for the injectors, but never replaced teh valve cover gaskets. So now the plenum had to come out. - it needed new PCV valves/hoses - it needed new plugs - it needed new oil ( so that is extra on top of the $800 labor) - both idler pulleys were making noise, so I suggeste dthat he should replace them - the timing belt out of his car was 2 or 3 teeth longer than a new OEM belt - he TOLD me that he used NAPA o-rings on the new Nismo injectors Robert agreed to put all new oil pump, crank and cam seals, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, PCV valves, PCV hoses, new crank sprocket, new NGK plugs, timing belt pulleys. So we started on pulling the plenum, replaced the valve cover gaskets, replaced teh timing belt pulleys,a nd then we ran ito teh proble mith the timing belt. He said it was a new belt, but it was longer. I grabbed a new NISSAN OEM belt, and it worked out fine. So we proceeded with dropping teh pass side turbo and oil filter tree, installed a new oil filter tree and a OEM filter. Sofar all the parts and the fuids at 30% off came out to: Oil pump, valve covers, sealnat, crank seal, crank sprocket, oil pump gasket, rear main seal, rear main seal gaskets, 2 idler pulleys, oil filter, PCV valves, pcv hoses - $420 at our cost ( call Coz to check his prices, they are way OVER $420 for all that) Plugs NGK 6B11B - $45 Upper rad pipe $35 Engine oil $10 Coolant - $5 new OEM tbelt - $32 Redline trans fuild MT-90 - $24 PS fluid $5 Then labor wise: Replace oil filter braclet $100 Remove/reinstall engine $700 Replace oil pump and seals - $125 Replace valve covers - $75 Timing belt second replace ment $125 He needed a new wtare temp sensor as well - $10, no labor GA tax $35.34 So, Robert was adding all these new parts, and I was telling him along teh way how much tehg parst were, but I do not understand how come he wa sunde rthe impression that $800 will do all that. Then came teh big problem - I asked him to put a new EFI harness, but he refused. I aske dhim about new water and fule lines, he said he cannot afford them. Well, we cannot just add a harness ($260),a nd all the lines for free. So I told him that it is still riusky. We also installed a OS Giken clutch in teh car with teh fylwheel for $1000, but that was on credit,a nd not in that invoice. After all teh parst were installed, the car had a vacuum leak at the idle control valve - the rubber hose was cracked. So that took 3 more days of waiting from Nissan. $it was a $5 part, so we did not charge him. After the engine was installed, he said he needed the car , so we checked everything, primed the turbos, and start dthe car. It was running EXREMELY rich. I check teh JWT ECU, it wa steh correct one. Then teh next day Robert told me that he used NAPA o-rings, and he did not lube them, and he "had to hammer the Nismo injectors in". Well, I still donot understand that after all these problem wiuth the jspec engine, he expected us to do a car in 1 week, considering that more and more parts started coming up bad. So he decided against having us replace o-rings ,a nd he decide dto driv ethe car home. About teh steering wheel not being centered, the indexing piece on teh steering wrack was not on teh car when it came in. I told him I need one, and he said he doe snot have the time to wait for a new one. So I could not really do it perfectly without the plastic indexing piece, but it was his choice to pickup teh car like that. About the injectors - he installed them himself, we have not touched them. About the knock sensor harness, he fixed the harness him self. So Ash, we DID NOT fab that part:-) About me going there to his house again: it is my PERSONAL choice if to go and help him there after hours. So I do not think we can be hold responsible for not answering the phone calls after 8pm. About teh car running on 4-5 cylinders, Robert dod not want to replace injector connectrs, or the EFI harness. He did not want us to check his injectors. About his water leak from teh pass side turbo water line, I offered replacingall waterlines under and around the plenum, but he refused. 2 weeks later he pulled the plenum and wanted to do this himself. The car wa snot driveable because of the injectors leaking. Considering that he said "he hammered them in" I can see why the car was smoking and sending unburnt fuel to teh exhaust. JWT chip, and damaged injectors. Neitrher of them were done by us, so we cannot comment on that. Power steering fluid leaking. Again, we dod not replac ethe lines, as we offered, since the engine was out. What else should I say? The polsihed plenum - when we dropped off the plenum, the company that does teh polishing, said that the fact that he TRIED polishing some of it, will not reduce the amount of labor to redo it. The plenum came out REALLY nice, and Robert went with Andy to pick it up. We paid $250, so we charged him $250. On more chance? What do you mean? I was doing you a favor by driving 30 miles to your house, to help you do the car right. So Robert, I would really appreciate if you write the story the way it was, not that $800 was teh whole quote, and your engine was perfect. Alos, you still have a balance, so I would appreciate if you at least call me for a payment. George
